Software house Sequent has won the prestigious PwC 2022 NZ Hi-Tech Award at a ceremony in Wellington, New Zealand.
Our friends at Sequent, The Bentley Subsurface Company, have been named PwC High Tech Company of the Year at the 2022 New Zealand High Tech Awards. The awards celebrate New Zealand’s most successful high-tech companies and people.
Sequent CEO Graham Grant says he is incredibly proud of the Sequent team, past and present, for building Sequent into a global underground software success story with remarkable talent, focus and passion.
“Ten years ago we first entered the NZ Hi-Tech Awards in the export category with a great vision. We are delighted to be named New Zealand Hi-Tech Company of the Year, following previous recognition as a finalist, with a relentless focus on innovation, growth and excellence.
“While we have long been on an exponential growth journey, carving out a name for New Zealand in the underground software industry, last year has been transformative and will be a pivotal year. We have achieved rapid global growth, acquired four thriving businesses, developed a portfolio of innovative solutions and continue to expand our team. .
“In 2021, we opened a new chapter in our growth story with the acquisition by Bentley Systems, a Nasdaq-listed infrastructure engineering software company. Together, we are helping to create a more flexible future by connecting the world built above the earth with the world hidden beneath it.”
Additionally, former Sequent CEO Shawn Maloney, who will retire in April 2021 after a decade, was a finalist in the IBM Hi-Tech Inspiration Individual category.
Grant adds, “It’s fitting to see Shawn’s leadership recognized in the sequel. It has been a true honor to lead Sequent and their fantastic team into their exciting next chapter over the past year.”
Customers use Sequent software in more than 120 countries to make better decisions about land, environmental and energy challenges. These include the development of key mineral resources, groundwater and renewable energy supply, and the design and delivery of resilient infrastructure while minimizing impact on the planet.
A record number of startups have entered the 2022 NZ Hi-Tech Awards from across the country and from all parts of the hi-tech sector.
Selecting Sequent as PwC’s High Tech Company of the Year, the international judges said: “Sequent is a great Kiwi success story. The team has developed and implemented Kiwi technology at companies in more than 100 countries around the world, providing advanced geoscience modeling and analytics to enable a deeper understanding of the Earth. The company’s reputation, growth, advanced technology and consistent global performance set it apart from the many top companies competing for this award.”
2022 Awards NZ High Tech Awards Almost 1,100 people, including the Prime Minister and Mayor of Wellington, attended the banquet in Wellington on Friday 5 August.
