Tiny traveled the world producing “DATA” – Metro Puerto Rico

MEXICO CITY (AP) – It took several years and multiple trips, but the urban Latin DJ and producer tainy He holds his debut album “DATA” in his hands with guests like Daddy Yankee, Skrillex, Young Miko, Sych, Kani Garcia, Ro Alejandro, Wesen Y Yandel.

Tiny revealed his project for the first time with the song “I’m sorry dear:/” with Julieta Venegas And bad bunnywas released at the end of 2021. But he says he started working on the record about three years ago, and some of the first ideas came from a trip to Mexico.

“I left with my Neon 16 team, and we went to Tulum and were there coming up with many initial ideas for other energy sucks,” Tiny said in a recent interview in the Mexican capital.

Mexico City, Miami, San Juan, New York, and Los Angeles were some of the cities his album process took him to, where he also had guests on Feid, Myke Towers, Álvaro Díaz, Chencho Corleone, Arcángel, Ozuna, and Jhayco. But in the end, Tiny treated himself by traveling away.

“My idea was always, even if it was the finishing touches on the record, I wanted to make it in Japan, and once I had all the tools I needed, I was able to fly to Japan and spend about three weeks there,” he said. Tiny visited Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka to immerse himself in the local culture and atmosphere.

He is a fan of Japanese anime and Studio Ghibli movies like ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ and ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ which he has watched since he was young. Growing up, he enjoyed the songs “Dragon Ball Z”, “Evangelion”, “Akira”, and “Ghost in the Shell”, something that is reflected on his album cover, which features a pink-haired robotic girl receiving data. in consideration. It is the anime version of the robot that appears at the beginning of the “Sorry BB :/” video.

“It’s something I was passionate about growing up, and I’m finally given work on a record, where I don’t just work on the music, but I can have a voice inside the visual; the thing that really likes me is the anime and I feel like people know more about me with it.”

Going from being an award winning product to Four Latin Artist Awardsas on his album, is something Tainy has been craving since he started working in music as a teenager.

“But from the idea to making it a reality, there are so many things that need to happen and I feel like I still have a lot to learn, and I think I still have a lot to learn, and I believe and understand about music… to get to know the business of music, and to learn that I need to Teamwork helps me do this kind of thing.”

As Tainy honed his craft as a producer, the urban Latin genre exploded in popularity, making it extremely difficult to coordinate the schedules of all the artists involved.

“But I wanted to make it happen, it was something that if I didn’t do it during my career I wouldn’t be cool. My job was to be able to make it happen, without expecting all the success in the world,” said Tiny, who added that the number one goal for him was to impress his guests. “You have achieved the purpose.”

Once he started working on “DATA”, Tainy gave himself the freedom to approach other sounds and instruments apart from the urban music he also feels drawn to.

So it included guitars of different styles and genres played by different people, piano, violin, even a little backing vocals, an orchestra banding together with electronic music and samples (parts of the recordings).

“It was something I wanted to try here, to start combining synthesizers with things that I would normally use to make music,” he said. “But juxtapose it with things that are a bit more retro, I wanted to make that a good contrast, the live instrument is something very important and I wanted to bring those two worlds together”.

“Feeling free and being able to express myself was just incredible,” he added.

His most recent single is “La baby”, a slightly faster up-tempo track that was originally created by Feid adding a melody that appealed to Tainy. The second person to join him was Daddy Yankee, whom Tainy had worked with as producer on his latest album and it was all united with Sech’s verses.

The song’s video is nothing short of excellent. Becky G, Camila Cabello, Evaluna Montaner, Lali, Elena Rose, Bad Gyal, Rainau and Paopao are shown dancing, singing and doing various activities in the style of an old home video. The reference to the stars in the video was as natural as possible.

We wanted to “honor all the amazing women in Latin music”, Tiny said. “We told them the following: Enjoy the song, as much as you like.”

It’s a pleasant surprise to find on the album Garcia, who has been developing her own career as a singer-songwriter, though many will feel her introduction could have been a full song. In addition to her, there are Godlin, Marias, Young Miku, and Arca as guest artists.

She said, “It’s really special to see all the female talent out there in a genre where there wasn’t so much, to see that now and see how amazing she is is also so amazing (awesome).”

Tainy left it to American DJ Skrillex to take “Volver” with a sample from Four Tet to another level as they play the distortion and tempo change of Rauw Alejandro’s voice. “I think it was really done like that in fate, he had to come work his magic and see the direction the song eventually takes,” he said.

On the other hand, Todavía’s “With Wisin y Yandel” has a more classic reggaeton sound and is one of the more simple songs on the album. In it, the Puerto Rican duo, who recently played a sold-out concert at Foro Sol on their farewell tour and will headline Mexico City’s Coca-Cola Flow Fest in November, sing about a girl who, like them, you can’t forget what they had.

“Wisin and Yandel are two of the first people who opened doors for me in music. There is an incredible relationship many years ago, they keep giving me a chance on their records and the ability to look back and see all the path we could make, so that I can contribute something to the career of the two of them,” he said. Tiny.” I needed Wisin and Yandel to be on the record. They represent who I am and where I come from.”

The next challenge for Tainy is figuring out how to bring his album into the live format. “The idea of not knowing exactly what could turn me on,” he said.
