Two dead and 232 rescued in a maritime tragedy in Lebanon

At the end of 2022, the Lebanese Naval Brigades, in conjunction with the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), saved the lives of 232 people aboard a damaged boat off the beach of Selaata in the Batroun area, north of the capital.

The army confirmed, through its Twitter account, that the bodies of two drowned people were recovered during the search operation, and those who were rescued were transferred to the city of Tripoli.

In this context, the interim Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, praised the army’s efforts to rescue the passengers who had stranded off the coast of Selaata, and thanked UNIFIL for their assistance.

At the same time, the head of government expressed his deep regret over the two victims of the accident, and offered his condolences to their families.

In 2022, the deaths and disappearances of people as a result of a boat capsizing near the city of Tartous in northwestern Syria in September, and a boat sinking in April off the Lebanese Sea in Tripoli, reflected a state of despair and commitment to irregular departure to other destinations. .
