United Airlines resumes flights to New Zealand

As on October 1, 2022, United Airlines Resuming its flights with three weekly flights between San Francisco (SFO) and Auckland (AKL). The flight’s last operation in New Zealand was in March 2020. United is the only US carrier to offer nonstop service between the state of California and the Kiwi Nation.

The route will initially be operated with Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with 274 seats in three classes (50 Polaris Business Class/24 Premium Economy/202 Economy) and will provide 1,656 seats per week. Air New Zealand, a member of Star Alliance and United’s transpacific joint venture, will operate daily segment flights on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

Flight Schedule

  • San Francisco-Auckland UA Flight 917 SFO 23:10 – AKL+2 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • Oakland-San Francisco UA Flight 916 AKL 14:30 – SFO 06:45 Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

From October 28, the airline will increase the service to daily flights, replace the aircraft and reintroduce the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner with 318 seats in three classes (44 Polaris Business Class/21 Premium Economy/253 Economy). With this action, United will restore its 100% offer on this service compared to the same period before the pandemic.

The Chicago-based airline will offer 25,251 seats per week between the US and New Zealand in the 2022/2023 boreal winter, making it the largest US operator in this market, according to data obtained by Aviacionline through Sirius.
