Vaccination seeks community immunity against Covid-19 in Ecuador

Quito, Dec 11 (Prinsa Latina) Today, Ecuador has started a massive campaign called vaccination, to achieve community immunity against Covid-19 at the end of this month.

The initiative, which will run until tomorrow, expects to achieve the goal of reaching 85 percent of the population from disease.

To this end, vaccination centers across the country will operate from 8:00 to 16:00 local time, when the first and second doses of biologic drugs used in the country (Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac) will be applied, over the age of five.

In addition, reinforcements will be applied to residents who completed the schedule six months in advance, in order to protect the health and lives of Ecuadoreans.

According to data from the Ministry of Public Health, 25.4 percent of children between the ages of 5 and 11 have already been fully vaccinated, as well as 61.8 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 17.

The 18-24 age group is covered at 78.8 percent and people between 25 and 49 percent are immunized at 84.2 percent.

In total, 11.7 million Ecuadoreans, out of a population of 17.7 million, have a full vaccination plan.

For its part, the government is ensuring that it gets the necessary doses to complete the program and protect the population, amid an increase in Covid-19 cases in some cities.

Authorities insist that vaccines help prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death.
