Van Gaal describes the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as 'ridiculous'

Van Gaal describes the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as ‘ridiculous’

Netherlands coach, Louis van Gaal, described as “ridiculous”, holding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and making harsh accusations against FIFA in a press conference before the friendly matches against Denmark and Germany.

“This thing that we are going to play and organize a tournament in a country to develop football there, as FIFA says, is nonsense. It is about money and commercial interests, and that is what is important for FIFA,” Van Gaal said.

According to the British newspaper “The Guardian”, about 6,500 migrant workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka died between 2011 and 2020, during the construction of the stadiums that will host the football event.

“Why do you think I am not a member of the FIFA Committee? Because I have always resisted. The coach replied to a journalist who asked him about celebrating the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

On the other hand, the coach gave his approval to former FB coach Ronald Koeman as his successor on the “orange” bench.

“Personally, I would recommend it,” said Van Gaal, who had his contract terminated after the World Cup and had already warned he had no intention of renewing.

“It is very reasonable that they would talk to Koeman. I said a year ago that I was the only coach with experience, and that now applies to Ronald Koeman. He is more than justified and would be a good successor,” Van Gaal said.
