Venezuela strengthens strategic cooperation with North Korea, China and Angola

(EFE). Venezuela on Monday strengthened the cooperative relations it maintains with North Korea, China and Angola in various “strategic” fields, the Caribbean country’s foreign ministry said.

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Carlos Faria said in a press note that Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faria held a meeting with North Korean Ambassador Ri Song Gil, with the aim of “strengthening the relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.”

The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Caracas, was “conducive to diplomats to assess bilateral relations and to certify mutual support in multilateral areas.”

The letter continued: “Victims of unilateral coercive measures imposed by US imperialism, the ties between Caracas and Pyongyang have been strengthened thanks to the strategic and political vision of leader Hugo Chávez Frías, which President Nicolas Maduro continues.”

Faria also held a meeting with Chinese Ambassador, Li Baorong, aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries and promoting trade exchange. The Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the meeting via Twitter, where it explained that the meeting between the officials was held “with the aim of continuing to strengthen bilateral relations” that include economic cooperation in various fields.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs published some photos of the meeting without providing details of the issues addressed in the meeting.

Although the Venezuelan executive has yet to specify the extent of extensive trade between Venezuela and China, it has reported alliances in health, communications, oil and other energy sources, mining, defense, finance and culture, among other sectors and “at all levels”.

Faria and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi endorsed at the end of June the friendly relations between the two countries and the “will” to strengthen their strategic relations.

On that occasion, both officials had a telephone conversation in which Faria endorsed the will of the Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, to further strengthen strategic relations and mutual cooperation.

The conversation came on the occasion of the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Venezuela, which is at “the best moment in history,” according to Baorong.

On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Africa Yuri Pimentel endorsed the will of Nicolas Maduro’s government to “strengthen friendly relations” with Angola, in a meeting he held with the new Angolan Consul General in Venezuela, Mario Domingos Simao, who recently arrived in the South American country.

In another press release, the Foreign Ministry added that the officials “agreed at the meeting on the need to accelerate and strengthen the various existing projects in education and energy, as well as to establish alliances in the field of agriculture.”
