The criticism and attitudes against her were not enough to stop J Balvin from filling the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Santiago de Cali. The Paisa singer started the week with a feud, the same one who has been in the eye of the hurricane for a few months. The Colombian musician appeared at the show’s official Super Mega Concert in that city before the eyes of nearly 40,000 people who came to see him and the other invited artists. On the morning of December 28, the translator of “Shaabi” thanked his followers for the presence and the overall capacity of the institution.

“Many thanks to all the people in Cali, to all the artists. Lots of revenue (…) and We fill up completely. we love. thank you always”, commented Palvin, on his Instagram account stories. Although it was not an explicit message, it was clear, to his followers, that he was referring to the difficulties that were being presented to him for his recital. A few weeks ago, when citizen groups, in particular women’s conglomerates, asked the local administration to ban the singer’s concert in the city.

To them, he hadn’t heard of Palvin, behind the song “Perra,” which is described as misogynistic and masculine, to perform on that massive stage. In an interview with El País de Cali, Nancy Fred Arias Castillo, a spokesperson for the right to petition, argued that she was asking for the concert to be cancelled, and said: “The concern is that according to the Attorney General’s Office and forensic medicine we have declared that in the past 10 years, Cali has been one of the most violent cities against women and girls.”

The song, which was produced in collaboration with singer Tokischa, sparked controversy due to its sexually explicit lyrics. “I’m a bitch in the heat (…) I’m looking for a dog to stay ‘sticky’Dominican women sing. The video for the song was deleted by Balvin after, in addition to being macho, he was flagged as racist, because in one scene he was seen walking with two African-American women posing as dogs. The women were “roamed” through Pisa.

This last detail, specifically, coincides with another controversy that the Colombian was implicated in when he was selected as the winner of the “Afro-Latino Artist of the Year” category by the African Music Entertainment Awards. Netizens confirmed that this award was incorrect because Balvin is a white man.

“Yes, you can be white and Latino and be a nominee, and you can also be black and Latino and be a nominee, just like Africans and whites. Artists are not nominated for their colours, artists are nominated for their contribution to the community and Afrobeat (…) Thank you for understanding our position “The organization’s president, Dominic Tamin, responded before the criticism.

Another leader in the movement, Rosa Elvira Castillo, explained to the same media outlet that other women like her were angry at the news.

“We believe in joy and in a just city it certainly knows that it is necessary to think of us women (…) Cali is a city mostly of women. We firmly believe that we must be respected and that any truth that is established in the city is a peaceful act, and that they eliminate sexual, racist and violent discourses and practices against us women.”

The mayor of Cali, Jorge Ivan Ospina, took part in the discussion and confirmed that he would agree with the idea that no one would buy him tickets to the event, however, as proved last night, this did not work. “There are inappropriate words and I see a lot of tickets being sold to women and it seems to me that there are a lot of pedagogical processes that need to be developed, because the best way to punish the singer is not to go see him.”commented.

Palvin, in his Instagram Stories, not only thanked his followers for filling the stadium, but also showed off an image of the fully occupied establishment.
