Wii Sports can be inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame

It’s that time of year again when The Strong Museum announces the finalists for the “World Video Game Hall of Fame” and by 2023 two Nintendo classics have been nominated.

First up is the 2006 Wii Sports launch title, which bundles five motion-control sports into one collection, and next, we have the rare 1997 N64-licensed shooter GoldenEye 007. As great as these two titles are, they also face some serious competition.

Other nominees include the following games: id Software’s influential FPS Quake, Microsoft’s legendary RTS Age of Empires, arguably the best CoD – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, EA’s long-running FIFA series, mobile sensation Angry Birds , the hugely popular 2K NBA series, the PlayStation success story of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, 1996’s hit Barbie Fashion Designer, 1981’s groundbreaking fantasy RPG Wizardry, and the first commercial video game in the PC space, dating back to 1971.

You may vote once per day, and the three games with the most votes on one ballot will be submitted to join another “Top Three Submissions” by members of the National Team Advisory Committee. The final members will be announced on May 4th. These are the criteria upon which final selections are based:

“The Strong’s International Video Game Hall of Fame recognizes electronic games of all genres that have been popular for a long time and have had an impact on the video game industry or popular culture and society at large.”

Select titles will be existing members such as Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario Bros. Street Fighter II, Minecraft, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You can see previous members on the site web Strong National Museum of Play.
