Yocasta Valley defeats Thi Thu Nguyen to unite the WBO and IBF titles at 105 pounds.

SAN JOSE – Costa Rica’s Jocasta Valle defeated Vietnam’s Thi Thu Nguyen by unanimous decision on Thursday and united the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles with £105.

Valle, who dominated all 10 innings of the fight, entered the fray as the IBF Champion and fulfilled her dream of facing the reigning WBO title and grabbing her belt.

The Costa Rican jumped into the ring with a bang in front of the 6,000 fans who filled the seats of the Heiner Ugalde Arena, in San Jose, in an atmosphere worthy of a fight for a world title.

Valle dominated the first four episodes, which several times tied his groups at the head of the Vietnamese.

Nguyen showed great resistance to the hits, but could not impose her conditions, even Argentine referee Mario Gonzalez made a reservation once for hitting her in the head.

Nicknamed the “People’s Heroine”, Valle continued to show her full range of blows to the head and sides from the Vietnamese, who staggered on several occasions due to the punishment she received.

In the last two rounds, Nguyen wanted to react, but was controlled by Vale with a straight and steady 1-2 in a header combination that prevented any surprise from the Asian.

The 30-year-old Costa Rican boxer raised her record to 24 wins (8 KOs.) and 2 losses, not dropping since June 2018 and racking up 10 straight wins.

For her part, the 25-year-old Vietnamese recorded her first defeat as a professional on Thursday after picking up 5 wins (1 by KO).
