Rio de Janeiro, August 7 (EFE). – Former Brazilian soccer player and coach Jorge Mario Lobo Zagallo, the only one in the world to win four world titles, was discharged on Sunday from the hospital where he was admitted for twelve days for the treatment of a respiratory infection, after a satisfactory response to treatment.

Medical sources said that Zagallo left the Barra d’Or Hospital in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning and is now at home, in the neighboring Barra de Tijuca neighborhood, where he will be able to celebrate his 91st birthday next Tuesday.

The former soccer player, who was the world champion with the Brazilian national team as a player in Sweden 1958 and Chile 1962, as coach in Mexico 1970 and as technical coordinator in the United States 1994, was admitted last June 26 to paramedical care in the hospital’s intensive care unit after complaining of breathing difficulties .

Zagallo underwent treatment for the infection for twelve days, during which he was always conscious and breathing without the aid of a device.

According to a medical bulletin issued by the hospital last Thursday, the former Brazilian national team player made a good development, with clinical evidence of a good response to the treatment he was exposed to, so his release was expected at any time.

Zagallo, nicknamed “The Old Wolf”, is one of the most important and most successful coaches in the history of Brazilian football.

Born on August 9, 1931 in the state of Alagoas, he worked as a striker during his time as a player, defending Flamengo and Botafogo for long periods.
