They give a positive opinion of Moderna; Vaccination will be allowed: health

The Federal Commission for the Protection of Health Risks (Cofepris) Committee on New Particles has issued a favorable opinion on Moderna’s vaccine against COVID-19.

The vaccine, which was developed in the United States, received its first unanimous positive opinion, a step prior to authorization for emergency use.

From now on, this will be the seventh COVID-19 vaccine approved in Mexico for emergency use.

“The favorable or unfavorable technical opinion is issued based on the scientific and medical evidence provided, and is incorporated by the laboratories in their files. Explained in a release.

Under Secretary of Health Hugo Lopez Gatell stated that this positive opinion “will allow the use of doses that the United States government will send to our country and thus accelerate the national vaccination plan against #COVID19.”

This, a week after the US confirmed that it will send 3.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine and another 5 million doses of AstraZeneca to Mexico, for a total of 8.5 million doses.

Last April, Cofepris granted the emergency use of the COVAXIN vaccine, developed by pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech International Limited, in India.

It also approved a COVID vaccine from the Pfizer-BioNTech lab in June for people over 12 years old. However, neither of these two vaccines has been implemented in Mexico yet.

To date, 77 million 573 thousand and 466 vaccines against COVID have been applied in Mexico; 348 thousand 15 administered on August 15.

The applied doses are 54 million 532 thousand 420 people; 61% of the adult population of Mexico.
