Boxer Rafael Zuniga’s fight against the health system – other cities – Colombia

Cartagena boxer Rafael Zuniga, glory of the national sport, continues to fight for life against the Colombian health system.

Four months ago, he won a tour after a long battle that lasted more than a decade, he was able to undergo spinal surgery.

Rafael Zúñiga is a great national sport of flat noses: out of 38 professional matches he has lost only 5. One in Las Vegas (USA), one in Mexico, Argentina, one more in Panama, and the last one in Cartagena… which prompted him to hang up the gloves Because, as he says, “I retired out of pure pride at the age of thirty, because I had never lost at Columbia.”

Zúñiga represented the country in 11 international events, including the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles (USA), where they stole his bronze medal and the chance to fight for the gold medal.

“They came to the fact that the prostate was growing and for this reason they assigned me to perform an operation at the university hospital, but after the intervention was over they told me that it was a mass … What is this? Do not play with someone’s health?”, the boxer denounces.

Although he was hospitalized after 9 days of intervention, in the last hours the treatment was suspended and he was discharged from the hospital.

And the Colombian boxer adds: “I ask them to explain to me what interference they have practiced with me, and now they send me to the street, and then, if my health is affected, I cannot claim it.”

At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he won the first fight by knockout for the Puerto Rican fighter. Then I fight with a Nigerian. At the judges’ first decision, he won the fight 4 – 1. But in an embarrassment to the Olympics, they reversed the decision and after a 30-minute discussion, lost 3 – 2.
