MADRID, October 22 (European press) –
A woman died and a man was injured Thursday by Alec Baldwin’s shooting in a tool case on the set of a movie in the US state of New Mexico.
State authorities have confirmed that the 68-year-old producer was also the shooter on the set of the western movie ‘Rust’, in an incident around 1:50 p.m. (local time) on Ranch Bonanza Creek. CNN reports.
A Baldwin spokeswoman noted that the shooting happened by chance when the prop pistol failed, NPR reports.
After she was shot, emergency services transported the woman to the University of New Mexico Hospital, although she was pronounced dead there. The victim has been identified as 42-year-old director of photography, Helene Hutchins.
On the other hand, 48-year-old manager Joel Sousa, who was taken to Saint Vicente Regional Medical Center, was injured in the accident.
The authorities indicated that an investigation was underway and no charges had been brought. Meanwhile, production of the film directed by Souza and with Baldwin as producer and actor was discontinued.
