Air New Zealand temporarily suspends flights to Chicago

Air New Zealand temporarily suspends flights to Chicago

Air New Zealand It announced on Tuesday that it will temporarily suspend non-stop flights between Auckland and Chicago from March 31 to October 25, 2024.

The route has been suspended due to issues with the availability of the Rolls-Royce Trend 1000 engines used on Air New Zealand's Boeing 787s, affecting airlines around the world.

Air New Zealand's head of sales and customer service, Leanne Geraghty, said it was a difficult decision, but one that would affect a very small number of customers.

“We know this will be frustrating for customers traveling to and from Chicago during this period, especially during the upcoming April holidays. “This was not a decision we made lightly, and we regret making this change so close to when some people plan to fly.”

“Unfortunately, Air New Zealand continues to suffer from issues with the availability of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, meaning up to three aircraft will be unavailable for an extended period of time, so we have had to review our itinerary.”

“While maintaining our schedule of up to 35 weekly flights to six ports in the US and Canada, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend the Chicago route so there are more options to get to Chicago,” added Geraghty.

Customers holding tickets to Chicago will be rebooked with a connection through another U.S. airport to get to their destination faster. Those who book direct with Air New Zealand will receive their new itinerary within 72 hours and there is no need to contact the airline. Those who booked through a travel agency should contact their agent to confirm changes to their itinerary.
