Australia and New Zealand celebrate unity with a year to go before the tournament

  • Australia and New Zealand hit the key milestone in 2023

  • Celebrations at nine locations include the opening of the Campo de la Unidad

  • Tickets for the match will go on sale in October.

An important milestone has been reached today, the start of the 365-day countdown to the start of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™. And if the celebrations at the stadiums are anything to go by, the excitement and enthusiasm for the tournament will be felt across Australia and New Zealand once the world champions are crowned in August 2023.

A highlight of the day’s events was FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samura’s visit to Sydney to inaugurate Unity Field. Originally located in Barangaroo, on the waterfront, this quirky mini court will be accessible and give locals the chance to soak up the atmosphere of the competition. The stadium will travel through nine stadiums and will be awarded to host nations as part of FIFA’s commitment to leave a lasting legacy.

The FIFA Secretary General was accompanied by dignitaries, managers and media as well as a large group of young footballers trying out the new pitch. Also in attendance were Australian international winger Ellie Carpenter, New Zealand national team midfielder Malia Steinmetz and world champion and FIFA legend Karla Overbeck. The guests were also able to enjoy warm cultural welcome ceremonies from the indigenous people of both countries.

“It’s always special to walk out onto the pitch wearing a national team shirt,” Rolston said. “To play a tournament of this magnitude in front of our public, in front of our friends and family, will be incredible.”

But the lighting of the obscure structures with the competition’s colors and branding is a more spectacular activity. Auckland’s Sky Tower was emblazoned with the words “One Year to Go” rising into the night sky.

Across the Tasman Sea, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth experienced a “light of unity” that did not go unnoticed. In Sydney, the piers of the Bay Bridge were lit up in a stunning and unforgettable visual tribute to the biggest soccer event on the planet.

“It’s really exciting because it’s very emotional to go out and sing the national anthem in front of family and friends, and of course, I hope the crowd fills the stadiums,” said former Western Sydney Wanderers player and current player Carpenter. Leon star.. “It would be amazing to have him here in our own home.”

FIFA also announced that Australia & New Zealand 2023 tickets will go on sale online from October 6, priced at AUD/NZL 20 for adults and AUD/NZL 10 for children.
