New York, March 10 (EFE). Latin superstar Becky G today releases the song and video she recorded with merengue singer Omega “El Fuerte,” while working on her debut album of regional Mexican music in which she wants to pay tribute to their immigrant ancestors and “Mexico dear.”

“Arranca” is a merengue infectious fusion beat she recorded with the Dominicans, adding to the long list of Latin artists the award-winning singer has recorded, including Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, Ozuna, Prince Royce or Natasha, among others.

Becky G noted in an interview with EFE that the purpose of the collaboration was to “continue to prove” that she is a singer who is not categorized into one musical genre.

It was a Dominican friend who recommended him to sign up with Omega. She recalled that when she was 15 years old and sang in English, her friend gave her a lot of support because she was ashamed “not of singing in Spanish, but of the accent”.

“I feel so grateful for those moments I shared with him because he was my inspiration,” said the 25-year-old award-winning artist.

The video was recorded last month in Boca Chica with a production team made up entirely of Dominican women. “It was a beautiful experience, an honor because the people are so humble, (they were) so passionate,” he said in an interview at Sony Music’s New York headquarters.

Omega is the second Dominican with whom Becky G has recorded, who had previously done so with rapper El Alfa on the song “Fulanito” released in June 2021. Spain’s Rosalía also recorded “Despechá” with Omega, although it is finally the common theme It was not put on the market, but only the solo recording of the singer.

Betrayal without regret

“Never” speaks of separation due to the betrayal of the husband, in which the woman never ceases to regret. The topics Becky G tracks range from breakups to female empowerment and sexuality too. The translator repeats that she does not consider them controversial, and that “the woman’s decision is to express herself as she wants.”

“My sister and I played sports and they never told us you can’t do that because you’re a woman. I think that’s helped me a lot in life because there’s not much room for us in this industry,” she argues and asserts that if she were a man she wouldn’t have indicated the content of the subjects.

“No matter the language, no matter the gender style, I think it’s important to show that women can do everything and more,” she says.

Regarding the album of regional music, he said he will publish it this year as a tribute to his Mexican grandparents.

“My grandfather Miguel (his father’s father) passed away recently. I feel fortunate that my grandparents have had a big part of my life. They came to the US from Mexico with nothing. They have everything for their children and I’m part of that,” he points out and stresses that he wants to show “that those The sacrifices are worth it.”

Latinos with “two flags”

“With them on my mind, this album will be a dedication to my beloved Mexico, to my ancestors”, as well as to the new generation of Latinos “alamein” that “we are neither from here nor from there”, with whom he identifies.

He said, “I want to show the second and third generations and those who come that it’s never too late to learn your traditions, practice your Spanish, sometimes a little ‘pocho’ or using different kinds of accents,” he called it “pocho,” a pejorative used in Mexico To call Mexicans who have difficulty speaking Spanish fluently because they also use words in English.

The artist also stresses that it is “very hard” for her to see what is happening on the border with Mexico with thousands of immigrants trying to reach the US, and that it is important for people to educate themselves to vote.

“It is our responsibility to speak up and educate ourselves on this topic. It is extremely important to me when the time comes to vote to use my platform to talk about these things because it affects us, not me directly, but my community, the people of my family.”

“It makes me very sad but we can’t lose faith. I think we are more together and if we unite we can achieve many things,” he said. EFE
