Bolivia's vice president warns of coup plots

Bolivia’s vice president warns of coup plots

“Just as they showed that time in Town Hall and planned the coup, again, brothers, they are the same, but in our town there was an awakening of conscience in 2020. Make no mistake, said the Vice President.

Before the hall where the leader of the Movement for Socialism – Political for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (MAS-IPSP), Evo Morales, thanked legislators from the majority part and leaders of social organizations, Chuquihuanca thanked the support of the popular forces.

He noted that the change process suffered a violent interruption with the 2019 coup, but that with the support of 55 percent of voters in the 2020 elections, it was restored.

He referred to crimes such as the Sakapa and Senkata massacre, “We lived through a year of grief, uncertainty, crying, mourning, frustration, torture, extrajudicial executions, human rights violations, political persecution and imprisonment.”

He reiterated that the reformulation of the oath with coup intentions is a fait accompli, as evidenced by the September 30 City Council led by the powerful groups in Santa Cruz.

In the face of these anti-democratic plans, the vice president called for people’s unity to defend not only democracy but also natural resources such as lithium.

As mentioned, in the year the constitutional order was ruptured, the de facto government began the process of “privatizing” these reserves, but the government of Louis Archie stopped it.

“They want to split us up to steal our lithium,” he said, and stated that the metal would bring in Bolivia $30 billion in revenue, 10 times what comes from selling the gas.

Chuquihuanca concluded, “If we were united, we would all be.”
