They warn of chronic vulnerability in Haiti.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stressed that the indiscriminate violence perpetrated by armed groups has almost led to the collapse of basic services, plunging Haiti into a crisis unprecedented since 2010.

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, education, health, water, hygiene and sanitation, which were already inadequate to meet the needs of the local population, have exacerbated this complex scenario.

For its part, the International Organization for Migration reported that nearly 600,000 people fled gang attacks.

Half of the displaced, who fled the capital in search of safety, have headed south, where the vast majority are staying with already economically vulnerable host families, the digital newspaper Haiti Libre reported.

To reverse this situation, it is imperative that the international community and donors increase the funds allocated to the assistance operations carried out by UN agencies.

So far, some 300,000 cases of malnutrition have been recorded, and five million people, or nearly 50 percent of Haiti’s population, face severe food insecurity.

OCHA fears that the epicentre of the current humanitarian crisis is gradually shifting to areas that were not previously vulnerable to insecurity caused by criminal gangs.
