Clashes leave at least 56 dead and about 600 wounded – Escambray

The Sudanese Doctors Union warned that the number of deaths and injuries may rise due to a lack of information from hospitals.

The Sudanese Doctors Union reported that the death toll from the clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Action Forces rebel group reached 56, and the number of wounded reached 595.

The medical organization warned that the number of deaths and injuries may rise in the coming hours due to the lack of direct information from hospitals and medical centers.

Although information about the situation in Sudan is still inaccurate, UN officials have announced that according to hospital reports, the death toll is high.

The United Nations stated that three Sudanese employees of the World Food Program were killed in the city of Darfur, west of the African country.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, condemned the armed clashes in Sudan and, according to official sources, spoke with various political leaders to try to end the state of violence in the country.

Guterres communicated throughout Saturday with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat. The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and with the Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).

Clashes broke out between the army and the paramilitary group of the Armed Forces of Rwanda in the early hours of Saturday morning in the capital, Khartoum, and in other nearby cities.

Tensions have escalated between the army and the rebels in recent months, but the conflict between the two parties intensified this week, after a series of disagreements over security issues and military reform.
