Criticism of “Creed 3”, the third and apparently final part of the saga

Saturday, March 4, 2023

Starring and directed by Michael B. Creed III (2023) marks the conclusion of the epic spin off from Rocky. In this third installment, the protagonist Adonis Creed has been established and retired from the ring. Now, true to his experience, he dedicates himself to training other boxers and running his own gym because, as Creed puts it: “I quit boxing, but boxing didn’t leave me”. However, everything will change when a friend from his teens, Damien (Jonathan Majors, who we recently saw as the villain in… Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) returns to his life in search of the mathematical devotion he believes corresponds with him. The problem is that Damian will follow up on more than that, and he will also take revenge on Adonis, why? The reasons are hidden in the past common to both and that the story will be responsible for potions gradually.

genuinely, Creed III It appears to be the least accomplished feature film of the entire saga (for both epics). The film in question is completely flat and lacks emotion, something that has always characterized this brooding universe whose protagonist is the world of boxing and its resilient heroes. Jordan’s first feature has a very imprecise handling of staging and technical resources, in which everything is highlighted and explained ad nauseam. In addition, the effects look unkempt visually and in terms of plot development, some elements are implausible and forced, such as Damian fighting for the first time against a world champion like Chavez. while The second dogma (2018) successfully replicated the narrative outline of Rocky IV (1985), however, this new installment is driven on autopilot without any passion.

In addition, the changes in direction, script and of course the absence of the likable Rocky, played by the famous Sylvester Stallone, who also co-scripted the first two Creeds, are also noticeable. Rocky’s omission in the action in question leaves a certain sense of emptiness in the viewer and the worst part is that for nearly two hours into the movie he is not even mentioned. The fact is that without Stallone, there would be no Rocky, and without Rocky, there would be no Creed (neither father nor son). Each installment of Creed has been lessening Rocky’s screen time, though this has narrative coherence, as each segment of this spin-off corresponds to a phase in Adonis’ life, somehow comprising three acts: learning, dedication, and maturity.

Although Stallone is listed as one of my producers Creed IIIHis absence in acting was apparently due to his disagreements with the Winkler family of producers, over the distribution of the rights to Rocky. Stallone wrote the script for many of the films in the saga that began in 1976 and directed some of them, so in a way, his claim to his rights makes moral sense. In conclusion, though Creed III Funnily enough, it doesn’t match any of the previous installments.
