Ecuador hosts the Andean Council of Foreign Ministers – Prensa Latina

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the regional meeting, which has been extended with the Honorary Representatives of the Commission before the Andean Community, will serve as a framework for the presentation of the 2021-2022 Action Plan for the Provisional Presidency of Ecuador.

The program will be presented by the Head of Ecuadorean Diplomacy, Mauricio Montalvo, and the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, Julio José Prado. The meeting will be attended by Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia Martha Lucia Ramirez and Secretary General of the Andean Community, Jorge Pedraza.

Likewise, representatives of Peru, Oscar Murrieta, and Bolivia, Rogelio Maita, as well as those responsible for trade from those countries will also participate.

The agenda includes the intervention of the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, who will deal with the cooperation in scientific matters that the entity will provide to the Andean countries in the fight against Fusarium, a pest that is harmful to banana plants. For his part, the President of the Court of Justice of the Andean Community, Gustavo García Brito, will present the status and views of that body, which the Provisional Presidency of Ecuador proposed to strengthen institutionally and financially.

In accordance with the progress made, the expanded Camre will also maintain a dialogue on the external relations of the Andean Community with other blocs and third countries, which should end with the adoption of a statement.

The Andean Council of Foreign Ministers is the legislative and decision-making body responsible for the formulation and implementation of the members’ foreign policy, on matters of subregional importance, and coordinates the external work of the institutions of the Andean integration system.
