Efforts are progressing to rescue trapped miners in Mexico

Efforts are progressing to rescue trapped miners in Mexico

The authorities indicated that the rescue personnel would attempt a new descent to the mine, after others were carried out last Thursday to rescue the workers, but they reported that they had neither space nor vision for progress.

The information was presented by the National Coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velasquez, and the Minister of Defense, Luis Cresencio, during the morning press conference of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Velasquez and Cresencio explained that water levels in the first, second and third wells allow for descent, but pumping continues to achieve better conditions.

According to the data provided, until that moment, the height of the water in the first well reaches 1.6 meters; In two it reaches 3.9 meters and in the third it reaches 4.7 meters.

Similarly, officials have determined that a new pump, with greater extraction power, is included in the work today, and four more pits are being drilled.

For his part, the Mexican President stated that all investigations are underway regarding the owners of the mine, which was ceded by the government of former President Vicente Fox (2000-2006).

In this sense, the Office of the Attorney General (FGR) has asked a federal judge to hold a preliminary hearing at which it is expected that a person, identified as Christian “S”, be charged with the offenses of directing and managing acts in the illegal exploitation of the subsoil.
