The aim of the Ramsar List is to develop and maintain an international network of wetlands, which are important to preserving global biodiversity and human life, the Press Trust of India noted.

The country’s goal is to achieve the Ramsar Mark for 75 of its wetlands in the 75th year of its independence.

The Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Bhubandar Yadav said the Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Balikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pechavaram Mangrove in Tamil Nadu, as well as Sakya Sagar in Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Wetlands.

Located in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, Karikili Bird Sanctuary is well known for its cormorants, herons, gray herons, grizzlies, spoonbills, gray pelicans, white ibis and night herons.

Meanwhile, the forest of Pallikaranai Swamp Reserve is one of the last natural wetlands in Chennai, located near the Bay of Bengal.

In turn, the Pichavaram mangroves are the second largest in the world, with an area of ​​about 1,100 hectares, separated from the Bay of Bengal by a sandy quay.

Sakhya Sagar is located in Madhav National Park in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh and has a large population of swamp crocodiles.

Meanwhile, Bala Wetland is the largest natural wetland in Mizoram and extends over an area of ​​1,850 hectares.
