The Dominican catcher was seventh in the team’s batting order

The new adventure of Gary Sanchez Major League Baseball (MLB) started this Tuesday by wearing a San Diego Padres uniform, the third organization he’s played for this season.

The Dominican catcher was claimed off waivers and officially named to the team’s Major League Team of the Day and was promptly included in the offensive lineup and placed behind the plate.

Sanchez is seventh in the San Diego Padres offensive standings as he will partner fellow Dominicans Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz and Manny Machado.

“I’m excited to be here in a club with so many stars, so many good players. It’s a tremendous team. I’m excited to be able to share the club with them and to be able to help the team as much as I can, to contribute here to victory,” Sanchez told the press, in statements collected by The FanSD.

The Dominican mask comes from playing for the New York Mets in three games in which he appeared seven times at the plate before being placed on waivers. He finished with a .167/.143/.167 average with 1 hit and 1 RBI.

“Now I’ve arrived, whatever they want me to do, I’ll be ready to help the team win. It’s the most important thing. It’s not important to know when I play or not. When my name is in the squad I’ll be ready to help the team,” expressed Gary Sanchez.

Prior to his debut with the Mets, Sanchez was in the minor leagues with the San Francisco Giants organization, a team that released him at the beginning of May for his inability to make the major league roster as stipulated in his agreement.

With Gary Sánchez moving to the senior team, teammate Brett Sullivan was sent down to Triple-A El Paso.

In his PAT debut in a San Diego uniform, Sanchez sprinted to third base out of pitches off countryman and Baseball Classic teammate Sandy Alcantara.

The Dominican catcher finished the day 4-1 with a knockout before being replaced by runner Jose Azúcar.
