Human infection of avian influenza was excluded in Chile

Human infection of avian influenza was excluded in Chile

The Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, and the Director of the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response, Álvaro Hormazabal, agreed that no one had the H5N1 virus.

Hormazabal explained that the situation is under surveillance, following the discovery of one case in Ecuador, two in the United States and one in China.

Regarding the outbreaks that occurred in two poultry industry establishments, in the O’Higgins and Bio-Bio districts, the Chief of Agriculture confirmed that they were practically eradicated and no new infections appeared.

All employees of those facilities have been tested and tested negative for the virus.

In this sense, Valenzuela added, it is in talks with the United States, Mexico, the European Union and China to resume the export of white meat and eggs as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, in the Carlos Anwanter Nature Reserve, located in the southern city of Valdivia, they warn that between 10 and 15 percent of the population of black-necked pelicans could die from outbreaks of the disease recorded in those facilities.

There is no cure for influenza or bird flu and it is highly contagious, so it is necessary to isolate healthy species and sacrifice those that have been infected with the virus to break the chain of transmission.

With the exception of the Aisne and Magallanes regions, the disease is already present in the rest of Chile.
