Paredes hit 30 home runs in the Rays’ 9-5 loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field in Tampa. The hit between left field and center came in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner on base against Yemi Garcia.

The outfielder, born in Hermosillo on February 18, 1999, is in his fourth season in the major leagues, but only his second with the Rays, adding a total of 50 home runs in 249 games with Tampa Bay.

With 20 home appearances last year, he became the fifth Mexican-born person to reach this mark in a single season after Castilla (eight times), Aerobil Durazo (twice), Cristian Villanueva and Luis Urías. Having passed the number 20 mark this season, he joins Castilla and Durazo as the only teams to have played multiple seasons.

On track to hit 30 home runs in 2023, Paredes has three home runs this season, against the New York Mets on May 16 — both against Justin Verlander — and June 9 against the Texas Rangers and July 29 against the Houston Astros.

One of his hits this year was a grand slam — his second of his career — against Ken Waldychuk of the Oakland Athletics on April 7.

His best month was July with eight strokes from four corners, followed by August with six, June with five, April and May with four strokes each, and September with three.

Castilla has had six seasons with at least 30 home runs in each and is the only Mexican to reach 40 home runs by doing so three times.
