Scoop, a 30-year-old player in his 10th Major League season, singles out in the third inning, doubled in fifth for a 1,000 hit and tripled in the seventh as part of an afternoon run from 5-3 at bat raising his average from .173 to . 185.
Schoop joined Andruw Jones (1933) and Andrelton Simmons (1163 as of Sunday) as players on Curacao with no fewer than 1,000 hits.
Detroit bounced back from 3-1 down and scored more than four games for the first time since May 15.
Puerto Rican right-hander Joe Jimenez (2-0) scored 1 1/3 goal-free innings when he was comfortable with his one-shot ball. Dominican Gregory Soto, left-handed, managed to save Nick Gordon for the song of the ninth inning in his ninth save in 10 chances.
