KANSAS CITY, MO, USA – Lewis Robert shone in the 10th inning after a superb performance by Johnny Cueto as the White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals in the first round of a five-game series.
Yasmane Grandal also had a two-round shot for the White Sox, who blew a 3-0 lead in eighth.
Robert connected Scott Barlow (2-1) with two exits and led in the auto sprinter.
Cueto, 36, made six goalsless runs in his first major league appearance this season after being promoted from Triple-A Charlotte. He only allowed two hits and walked twice, with seven hits. Only one runner made it to second base with him on the hill.
Ryan Burr (1-1) scored the ninth goal without goals, and Liam Hendrix saved for the tenth time in 13 chances.
Barlow had five points without giving up a hit until Robert’s run at home.
