Macron proposes a global pact against poverty and climate change

According to the host president, the prevailing financial system is the result of an earlier consensus, and it is not moving as fast as humanity needs it.

This is why we are proposing a new global financial compact, he said, with the participation of everyone, from those on the front lines to youth and civil society.

Macron presented four principles that in his view could define efforts for change, starting with the vision that no country should be forced to choose between reducing poverty and protecting the planet.

Likewise, he argued that as part of the new agreement, each country chooses which model to follow, without assuming there is only one.

He stressed that let us respect individual paths in the act of engagement with sovereignty.

The French President also highlighted the principles of the existence of public financing mechanisms that guarantee investments, with local participation and multilateral institutions, and the importance of a greater contribution from the private sector.

He added that there is a lot of liquidity and money, and although it will be difficult to completely change the system, these resources must be put in the service of the planet and greater support for developing and middle-income countries.

In his speech, Macron expressed his expectations that the round tables of the summit would produce the expected results.
