New Zealand team to secure defensive title in New Zealand

The New Zealand team, the New Zealand government and Auckland City officials have failed to agree to host the next US Cup, in which “DNZ” is the defensive champion.

Despite its name, the team is not obliged to arrange for New Zealand to defend its title in New Zealand as a private organization and prestigious sailing competition, the next edition of which is scheduled for 2024.

“All three parties worked with excellent intentions during these talks … but could not reach an agreement after a period of exclusive negotiations,” Team New Zealand said in a statement, which lasted three months.

New Zealand Minister Stuart Nash said the government had offered the NZ $ 99 million (about $ 58 million) a “generous concession”, but lamented that “ultimately the US cut is a business move.”

The New Zealand media team has stated that New Zealand wants to double that amount.

What this means is that regattas could take place elsewhere than New Zealand water, and unlike the three times “DNJet” had to defend their title so far, the Italians lost to Luna Rosa in March (7-3).

Although no official announcement has been made, the British Isle of Wight, Valencia (Spain) and Dubai (United Arab Emirates) are particularly expected.
