It wasn’t long before the 2022 Academy Awards took place, a party that was not without controversy due to the social context, its new categories and the diverse list of presenters, which included three athletes among them, Tony Hawk.
Featured in the official list of event sponsors are DJ Khaled, HER and Shawn Mendes, or athletes Kelly Slater (surfing), Shaun White (snowboarding) and Tony Hawk (skiing). The latter defended his participation by specifying that he had previously appeared in some productions.
Amid the criticism, the acclaimed skater, who earned the first 900 in history at the 1999 X Games, used his Twitter account to respond to his critics and justify his act in the ceremony.
“If being in all of the Jackass movies, in ‘xXx,’ ‘Police Academy 4’ and ‘Sharknado 5’ doesn’t give me the right to be at the Academy Awards, your cinematic taste needs to be reset. (By the way I’ll give you)”Hook pointed.
In addition to the controversy, Tony Hawk’s film history also includes participation in “On the Edge of the Abyss”, “The Ugly Ones Wet also” and “The Masters of Dogtown”. Of course, his closest relationship to the art world was in 1996, when Peter Fonda doubled down in the surf scene in John Carpenter’s “013: Rescue in LA.”
