PAHO-Canada strengthens Department of Health cold chain to stockpile COVID-19 vaccines – PAHO/WHO

Managua, March 3, 2022 (PAHO/WHO). – Strengthening the cold chain and storage capacity for vaccines against COVID-19, the purpose of which was to donate 13 refrigerators, which was obtained by forging alliances with the Government of Canada – Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and PAHO/WHO.

This donation represents an important contribution to the vaccination process carried out by the Ministry of Health in the fight against the epidemic. These teams will be distributed in various departments of the state, in order to ensure the preservation of biological materials.

During the handover, the Minister of Health – Dr. Martha Reyes and Advisor to the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) of PAHO/WHO in Nicaragua – Dr. Patricia Arce, Director of Health Surveillance – Dr. Krishian Toledo and departments were present. Expanded Program on Immunization Managers.

For her part, Dr. Arsi highlighted the importance of this contribution by the Government of Canada, which reflects the commitment to respond to the epidemic and the solidarity of countries in mutual support to eradicate the epidemic. In addition, this donation will contribute to improving the quality of storage of cold chain vaccines against COVID-19.

At the same time, Dr. Ars called on residents to get vaccinated if they have not already done so and to continue implementing prevention measures, even after vaccination.

The Minister of Health – Dr. The President of the Government of Canada for this important donation, which will strengthen the cold chain, and in this way will ensure the quality of vaccines. This donation will go to the comprehensive local healthcare systems in Esteli, Masaya, Matagalpa, León, Las Minas, Rivas, Managua, Boaco, Chinandega and the Autonomous Region of the Southern Caribbean Coast.
