Prosegur’s largest logistics base will consume less energy thanks to LED lights and photovoltaic panels

Prosegur has implemented a comprehensive project at its main logistics base in Spain, located in Madrid, replacing all previous lighting with LEDs and installing solar photovoltaic panels to cover part of its self-generated energy consumption.

As the private security company stated in a press release, the change in lighting will allow it to reduce its energy consumption by 58% compared to the previous installation and thus avoid emitting more than 129 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually. Whereas the photovoltaic panels will mean a 14% reduction in consumption and 62 tons in the volume of carbon dioxide emitted.

This project – with the building located in the Vicálvaro neighborhood rising two levels in its energy class, from “D” to “B” – will be an experiment to replicate LED lighting and different measures of energy efficiency in ten other corporate hubs of the company in Spain and Portugal.

In the next phase, Prosegur will implement technological energy management systems at its main sites which, through telemetry, sensors and data analysis, will allow consumption patterns to be controlled and reduced by up to 10%, as shown.

Prosegur’s Global Director of Energy Efficiency, Esteban Pozo, noted that transformations that, like this one, promote energy efficiency “provide the added value of uniting a diversified company” like this one because it “has been able to connect all businesses and businesses across multiple regions.”

The company has already developed other projects similar to those at its base of operations in Madrid, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels in fifteen buildings in Brazil.

Both Prosegur and Prosegur Cash indicated that they intend to be the benchmark in terms of sustainability in their sector, and along those lines, they were the first security companies to join the Climate Pledge initiative.

With this, they committed to complete decarbonization ten years before the deadline set in the Paris Agreement, i.e. in 2040.

The use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency improvement by the group is part of the Sustainability Master Plan 2021-2023 and contributes to achieving the goals it has set in the environmental field.
