Roger Waters’ concerts in Poland canceled due to his stance on Ukraine

The organizer of the Polish show, Tauron Arena in Krakow, has canceled the concerts of British musician Roger Waters in Poland. The Pink Floyd co-founder referred to the networks after noting that he didn’t stop them as “strict censorship”.

The cancellation comes after Polish media reported that some council members had begun preparations to declare him persona non grata for his criticism of Western arms shipments to Ukraine.

In the resolution, which will be voted on next Wednesday, council members from the ultra-conservative government’s Law and Justice (PiS) party also demanded that anyone who publicly supports the figure of the Kremlin be declared persona non grata.

Promoters of this measure express their anger at Waters’ position “in light of the Russian criminal attack on Ukraine and the war crimes committed by Russian soldiers”.

The artist had participated in an open letter to the wife of the Ukrainian president, Olena Zelenska, in which she described the supply of arms to Kyiv as a “tragic mistake.”

Waters said in a Facebook post today that the council members’ initiative is due to their efforts to “encourage everyone involved in the disastrous war in Ukraine, particularly the US and Russian governments, to strive for a negotiated peace.”

This is the alternative to “escalation to a bitter end could mean nuclear war and the end of life on the planet.”
