ATLANTA – Travis Darno opened the scoring with Homer in the fourth inning, Dansby Swanson finished eighth, and the Atlanta Braves returned in the playoffs, beating Atlanta 3-2 on Tuesday.
The Braves, the last World Series champions, needed any combination of a victory of their own or a defeat of Milwaukee to qualify for the post-season for the fifth time in a row.
Atlanta (93-55) is also chasing its fifth consecutive NFL title, but started the day in second place, one game behind the Mets, who top the NL East.
Swanson added his Homer No. 21, a solo shot off the opposite court from Kyle Finnegan that sent the ball 379 feet off the board and extended to 3-1. The Braves have a streak of 10 home wins, leading the contenders 47-15 combined during this stretch.
Atlanta is between 52-25 in Truist Park and has the second best home win percentage in Old Circuit.
Matt Olson fled in the fourth half before Darno scored his twenty-eighth goal, from Nicaragua’s Erasmo Ramirez (4-2), to make the score 4-2.
Charlie Morton (8-6) gave up one inning and three hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking three times and hitting nine.
For the Nationals, Mexican Joey Meneses scored 4-1 in one run. Venezuelan Cesar Hernandez 3-1 with RBI, Ildemaro Vargas 4-1 with a run scored. Dominican Victor Robles 4-1.
For brave, Venezuelan Ronald Acuña 4-0, William Contreras 3-0.
