Mexico City, June 9 (EFE). – The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) fell 1.06% this Thursday in its main index, to settle at 49,290.22 units, on a day when the stock market recorded huge losses.

“The capital market ended the session with huge losses due to heightened concerns about the performance of economic activity in an environment of high interest rates,” Alfredo Sandoval, an analyst at Banco Base, explained to Efe.

In Mexico, the Price and Quotes Index (IPC), the leading indicator of the BMV index, fell 1.06%, Sandoval said, the eighth day of losses in the past nine sessions.

He explained that in the past nine days, “the Iraq Petroleum Company lost 6.05% and continued its losses so far in 2022 to 7.48%.”

The specialist noted that within the IPC, 13 of the 35 major companies that make up the index recorded gains, highlighting Bimbo (+ 2.06%), Liverpool (+ 0.93%) and Grupo Carso (+ 0.9%).

Instead, he said, “strong losses” were observed in share prices of Grupo México (-3.91%), Orbia (-3.48%), Peñoles (-3.27%), Volaris (-3.09%), Alsea (-2.9%). ), CEMEX (-2.86%) and Televisa (-2.48%).

This fall, the IPC is posting a cumulative loss so far this year of -7.48%.

On the day, the peso was down 0.45% against the dollar, trading at 19.66 units per dollar on the interbank market.

The index closed at 49,290.22 units, a loss of 529.08 points, and a negative difference of 1.06% compared to the previous session.

The trading volume in the market amounted to 265 million title deeds amounting to 15.024 million pesos (about 764 million dollars).

Among the 624 companies listed in today’s trading, 170 companies ended their prices higher, 430 companies incurred losses and 24 companies closed unchanged.

Titles with the largest upward difference were from TEAK (TEAK CPO), wood and paper products company, at 5%; Operator of sports centers Grupo Sport World (SPORT S), with 4.51%, and producer of non-alcoholic beverages Organización Cultiba (CULTIBA B) with 4.5%.

In contrast, titles with the largest bearish divergence were those of local produce company Grupo Vasconia (VASCONI), down -9.05%; The brokerage Finamex (FINAMEX O) with -8.57%, and the storage, delivery and water improvement company Grupo Rotoplas (AGUA) with -8.26%.
