The Panafusa/PAHO experiences under One Health were presented during a workshop in Mexico – PAHO/WHO

PANAFTOSA-OPS, 5 April 2022 – Throughout 2021, PANAFTOSA/SPV-OPS/WHO has been contacted by those responsible for the project “Strengthening Regional Strategic and Operational Cooperation for the Protection of Silva Maya” and “Global Project on Epidemic Prevention and Response, Health one”. Both projects are in order to gather information on the situation, priorities and potential for cooperation in the field of “One Health” and, more specifically, zoonoses.

The project “Strengthening Regional Strategic and Operational Cooperation for the Protection of Silva Maya”, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, includes a “One Health” component compatible with the “Global Project for Epidemic Prevention” And respond to it, One Health”, a larger initiative funded and implemented by the same actors.

Following up on these exchanges, Banafusa was invited to participate in the Planning Framework Workshop “Strengthening Regional Strategic and Operational Cooperation for the Protection of Selva Maya” and, more specifically, in the “One Health” planning group, held in Chetumal, Quintana Roo (Mexico).

In addition to participating in the activities of the workshop, he gave a presentation entitled “One Health: The Vision and Experience of BANAFUSA/PAHO”, which attracted the attention of the organizers and participants of the event, resulting in a rich exchange with them. .
It should be noted that the PAHO was the only organization that was not directly related to the project and had space for its presentation, and the organizers also invited it to close the event by providing a summary of the activities carried out in the “One Health” working group.

Participation in the One Health planning group was very important to explore options for collaboration between PANAFTOSA/PAHO and GIZ and to coordinate actions with national counterparts in health and agriculture present at the event (Mexico, Belize and Guatemala).
