The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, held official talks on Wednesday with the Prime Minister of Grenada, Deacon Mitchell, in the first activity of an official visit to this Caribbean nation.

“We had official talks with the Prime Minister of Grenada, Deacon Mitchell,” the Cuban president wrote on his official Twitter account, as he is on a tour of the region that included visits to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados.

“It was a fruitful and frank exchange, in which we endorsed our desire to continue to strengthen political dialogue and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” said the governor of the Greater Antilles.



In statements to the local press, Diaz-Canel indicated that this visit was “an old wish. The warmth and frankness with which we were able to speak confirm that we needed this opportunity that we had today.”

He noted that these official talks are a continuation of the meeting held on Tuesday within the framework of the eighth Caribbean Community (CARICOM)-Cuba summit held in Barbados.

He pointed out that on this occasion, all possibilities of developing, strengthening, expanding and continuity of relations between Grenada and Cuba were discussed.

The Cuban president indicated that “there is all the potential, the political will, all the desire and all the commitment to be able to implement a set of projects in various fields.”

For his part, Prime Minister Deacon Mitchell highlighted the “deep bonds of brotherhood” that exist between Grenada and Cuba, a friendship that “exists regardless of the challenges we have faced,” according to a statement released. Cuban presidency.

Mitchell reiterated his full support for “abolishing the US embargo imposed on Cuba, as well as its designation as a state that promotes terrorism.”
