El Premio Roche reconocerá el periodismo de salud en Latinoamérica

The company announced, Tuesday, that this year’s 10th edition of the Roche Award for Journalism in Health will honor the best reporting in the categories of audio, digital and daily coverage in Latin America.

The honor, which is the result of a joint effort between Roche Latin America and the Technical Secretariat of the Gabo Foundation, will be awarded for the first time to the best health and scientific work that addresses issues based on their economic, political, and social impact and from humanitarian, inclusive, and innovative approaches.

The 2022 award will focus on six themes: challenges to health care, non-communicable and low-prevalence diseases, innovations in health care, policy reforms to improve health care, women and health, and societal actions for health.

Miguel Montes Camacho, Director of Journalism Workshop at the Gabo Foundation, noted that the 10th edition of the award will be special because they are committed to meeting colleagues from the region and providing “more and better opportunities to expand a community committed to journalism” that seem to be health inclusive in the region.

This is from its relationship to fields such as economics, politics, science and technology.

“Most importantly, how all this is reflected in people’s lives, and thus, reminds us of the value of journalism as a public service,” Montes Camacho noted.

The call is open until June 27 and the winning journalistic works will be announced in November, through a virtual awards ceremony, which will bring together finalists, organizers, jurors and the journalistic community to highlight the excellence of Latin American journalism.

Applications, which can be in Spanish or Portuguese, will be received through the award website (premiorochedeperiodismo.com).

Winning works, which must have been first broadcast or published between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, will receive a scholarship of up to $5,000 for academic training, a trophy, and a diploma.

The finalists will receive a diploma and a medal, as well as an honorary mention.

Fernando Giannone, Head of Public Affairs and Communications for Roche Latin America, noted that the 10th edition of the Roche Prize for Journalism represents an opportunity to continue to recognize the talent, dedication and investigative work of journalists who have shined a light on what is most relevant to science. and health in Latin America.

“In this edition, the award will not only present a new image, but will also expand its reach to new audiences and topics, representing Roche’s renewed commitment to continuing to promote excellence and rigor in journalistic exercise, by reporting stories from different perspectives,” she pressed.

He noted that this is an “invaluable” effort that highlights challenges and solutions to improving health, “with the potential to promote changes that benefit the whole of society.”

To date, the alliance between Roche Latin America and the Gabo Foundation Technical Secretariat has awarded 50 journalists or teams of journalists from the region, including category and honorary laureates, and has created a community of nearly 4,000 professionals.
