The visit of the Vietnamese president to Thailand will be a historic milestone

The Vietnamese ambassador to Thailand, Phan Chi Thanh, said that the head of government will arrive in Bangkok 24 years after former President Tran Duc Luong in 1998, to confirm the commitment and determination of the Indo-Chinese state to further strengthen the strategic partnership.

Chi Thanh noted that in the past two decades, especially after the establishment of the bilateral strategic partnership, the relations between the two countries have rapidly strengthened in all sectors, and Xuan Phuc’s visit is expected to generate new vitality.

In statements to the VNA news agency, the diplomat said that in the context of good political relations, there are conditions for strengthening economic cooperation, especially in agriculture, energy, infrastructure, industry and transport.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc will travel to Thailand to participate in the 29th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Week, events that will help flesh out his foreign policy of strengthening and improving multilateral diplomacy.

Thailand is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with transactions reaching $18.8 billion in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 18 percent.

In the first nine months of 2022, the trade volume was $16.1 billion.

So far, there are 670 Thai investment projects on Vietnamese soil with a registered capital of more than $13 billion, placing that country 9th among 139 that have investments in Vietnam and 2nd among ASEAN member countries.

The two parties maintain mechanisms of bilateral cooperation in the fields of defense, security, combating transnational crime and training, which are being actively developed, while strengthening relations in the field of tourism, culture and personnel exchange.
