There will be no health reform in Colombia this year

There will be no health reform in Colombia this year

At the historic charter meeting taking place today in Medellin, the reforms that the new government intends to implement in Colombia from August 7 and those that will be postponed for the time being were outlined.

The designated health minister, Carolina Corco, has confirmed that health reform will not be introduced this year.

“We work with different sectors in a very serious way, but also with deep focus because, as Secretary[Carolina Curshaw]said, they are either focused on business (EPS) or on defending fundamental rights, or else they are reforming,” said Congresswoman-elect Marta Peralta. Health is coming and guarantees these basic rights.”

He added that the reason for postponing the health reform is due to the fact that more than half of the health sector workers are working to improve service delivery.

“As everyone knows, 14 of the 30 EPS that exist do not meet the requirements. There are different health sectors that are working hard and deserve more time to analyze and the Colombian people can learn about the health reform that includes that right that we yearn so much.”

Peralta also indicated that the tax reform that the new government will implement will include some items that seek to fund health reform in the future. These articles will boost your health budget, such as the sugary drinks tax. He said budget and resources are required for this health reform to be comprehensive and guaranteed.
