They demand equality in health services on World Health Day

The representative of the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization in Cuba (PAHO/WHO), Jose Moya, called for more inclusion and changes in this sensitive sector.

This need is urgent because it will allow real access to medical care as a basic human right, said Moya at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization in the capital on the occasion of the event.

Three out of ten people in the world do not have access to it, and one in four faces costs that are impossible to afford.

“This is an expression of the inequality that affects the most vulnerable populations,” Moya said.

For the dream of health for all to come true, we need people and communities that have access to quality services, with qualified staff and a commitment to strong primary care.

The Covid-19 pandemic and other emergencies demonstrated the inevitability of making significant investments in this sector, developing action plans that ensure better protection and preparing systems to deal with upcoming epidemics.

Moya highlighted the work carried out by the World Health Organization between 2020 and 2021 after intervening in 87 emergencies, and a new global convention on epidemics is currently being drafted, which is being consulted with 194 member states with the aim of developing a strategy aimed at protection. new generations.

The World Health Organization celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary under the slogan “75 years of improving public health” and the global slogan for this date is health for all.
