They pay tribute to Sucre in Ecuador 201 years after the Battle of Pichincha

Quito, May 25, 2023. – On the morning of Wednesday, May 24, 2023, officials from the Embassy of Cuba participated in the wreath-laying ceremony in front of the monument to the Grand Marshal of Ayacucho Antonio José de Sucre, in Plaza Santo Domingo, organized by the Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on the occasion of the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Pichincha.

Officials from the Consulate of Venezuela in Ecuador, authorities from the province of Pichincha and the Municipal Education Unit Antonio José de Sucre laid offerings of flowers at the foot of the Venezuelan and Latin American Hero Monument in the historic center of Quito.

In the words of the Venezuelan Consul General, Pedro Sassoon, the Battle of Pichincha is an expression of integration, unity and heroism. Sucre’s example gives strength to resist and continue the struggle for true independence.

The consul described this feat as a continuation of the Battle of Carabobo and the Battle of Boyaca, which seeded the independence of Venezuela, part of what later became Gran Colombia.

May 24th is a civic date for the heroes who gave their lives for freedom.

The tribute was also attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps and Ecuadorian social and political organizations, in addition to the Venezuelan population and members of the children’s choir “Mi Patria Venezuela”.

The event was accompanied by the band of the Educational Unit of the Municipality of Sucre and its group Pastoneras.
