Toyota is revolutionizing electric mobility in New Zealand with its bZ4X SUV

Toyota New Zealand has released pricing and specifications for its long-awaited first electric car, the bZ4X SUV. The vehicle will be introduced in the country in early 2024, with the aim of giving New Zealanders access to electric mobility.

The bZ4X will be available in two trim levels: “Pure” and “Motion”, both based on Toyota's e-TNGA platform and equipped with a 71.4 kWh battery. The entry-level “Pure” model is priced at $72,990 and includes a single electric motor that delivers 150 kW to the front wheels. For its part, the top-end “Motion” model costs $82,990 and is equipped with an additional electric motor at the rear, providing 160 kW of total system power, which distributes power to all four wheels.

Both variants of the bZ4X display impressive capabilities, including the ability to wade through water up to a maximum depth of 177mm and tow up to 750kg with brakes. The “Pure” model gets 18-inch aluminum wheels with silver and black finish on the plastic, while the “Motion” model gets 20-inch black and machined aluminum wheels, a panoramic roof and a large rear splitter.

Inside, Toyota has focused on providing comfort and luxury in the bZ4X. The “Pure” variant offers fabric and synthetic leather finishes, while the “Motion” variant offers the option to choose between black or gray synthetic leather.

Safety is a priority, and Toyota includes the comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense package as standard on the bZ4X. This equipment includes functions such as cross-collision avoidance assist and emergency steering assist. The “Motion” variant goes a step further and adds a Panoramic View Monitor and Blind Spot Monitor for greater driver safety.
