US-Russia talks do not ease US tensions over Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, at the conclusion of a dialogue with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkin, made statements to the press and revealed the commitment of the White House to submit written proposals on the topics covered.

Russia Today Agency quoted the words of the Russian Foreign Minister, who rejected the documents presented by the United States for the meeting. “It suffices to browse and open any page at random to see that everything that is written there does not stand up to critical reading.”

He also referred to allegations in the West and the press that Russia was preparing to invade Ukraine, and stated that this thesis was unfounded, citing a question from a journalist from CNN. In this regard, he suggested that the State Department analyze CNN’s methods regarding impartiality of information and accuracy in presenting the facts.

He noted his urging Blinken to use his influence over Kiev to bring him to his senses, admitting that all the hysteria in the West “is aimed at provoking Ukrainian military action in the Donbass, and covering up the policy of the complete sabotage of the Minsk agreements . . ” by the Kiev regime. Subsequently, he described the dialogue with his American counterpart as beneficial.

The talks came amid a tense standoff between the two countries, with troop movements and warfare techniques moving toward Russia’s southern borders and the militarization of Ukraine.

Since December, Russia has proposed two agreements to the United States and NATO, on the limitation of NATO expansion to the east and the non-accession of Ukraine, issues with marked differences between the two parties.
