Venezuela has reduced complaints of human rights violations

CARACAS, December 17 (Prensa Latina) Complaints of human rights violations in Venezuela have decreased by 38 percent from 2018 to date, the Public Ministry reported today.

A press release issued by the entity indicated that the information provided by the Public Prosecutor of the Republic, Tariq William Saab, regarding the celebration this week of the 74th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was approved by the United Nations.

From the aforementioned year until 2021, cases of alleged human rights violations gradually declined, moving from 13,234 to 8,237, a trend that continued in 2022, according to projections.

The highest representative of the Venezuelan public authority noted that the statistical evidence reveals the hard work of investigating and punishing these events, which “brings about changes in the behavior of those responsible.”

Saab revealed that as of last November, 1,493 state security officials had been charged with alleged human rights violations and 61 people accused of working.

He explained that a total of 779 people from various security agencies and 46 individuals were deprived of their liberty, while 1,640 officials and 81 individuals were charged.

The Public Prosecutor denounced the conviction of a large number of 277 officials and 101 collaborators.

He commented that the fight for justice and human rights “will not weaken for a moment” and the results are remarkable because those responsible for the law dare to violate them less and less.

With regard to the Public Prosecution’s interest in those deprived of their liberty, Saab explained that since August 2017 they have carried out 3,173 days of assistance, which included 2,908 visits to preventive detention centers.
