Vietnam plans to increase its purchases of electricity from Laos and China

HANOI, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam is in negotiations today with Laos and China to increase electricity purchases due to reduced capacity and available reserves, as predicted by the National Electricity Group (EVN).

This was announced by EVN General Manager Tran Dinh Nhan at a press conference marking the launch of the national campaign to save electricity almost before the start of summer, which is expected to be warmer than in previous years.

Dinh Nhan warned that the energy sources in the entire EVN system are facing a shortage in their reserves, pointing out that the power load in the northern region may be tense at peak times, so solutions must be sought to ensure the stability of energy supply. in the country.

The executive explained that even the available capacity is sometimes less than the demand for loads, so the group must resort to diesel and fuel thermal power plants, or work with coal, gas and oil suppliers to ensure the operation of its facilities.

In addition, negotiations have been held with investors in wind and solar energy projects to purchase electricity for the national grid.

In the middle of last week, the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, chaired a government meeting that discussed possible solutions to ensure the supply of electricity for production, business and consumption.

Despite considering that the total capacity of the national electricity systems is able to fully meet the demand, Minh Chinh warned that it may face a partial deficit and in the short term (until May 25), due to increased demand due to the extreme heat.
