Wade Miley returns to the Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee – left-handed pitcher Wade Mileywho is best remembered in Milwaukee for starting back-to-back NLCS games for the Brewers in 2018, is ready to return to the club.

A source told MLB.com that Miley, 36, has agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal that includes a mutual option for a second season. The Brewers did not confirm the deal, still subject to the results of medical exams.

Assuming nothing comes of it on a physical level — Miley pitched just 37 innings for the Cubs in 2022 with elbow and shoulder injuries — the lefty will add depth to the Brewers pitching staff, particularly to a struggling rotation. Led by Corbin Burns, Brandon Woodruff and Freddie Peralta, with Eric Lauer, Aaron Ashby and Adrian Houser.

Recent history indicates that Miley can take six to seven starting options if she is in good health. In 2018 with the Brewers, he posted a 2.57 ERA in 16 regular season starts before allowing two runs in 14.2 innings pitched over four innings in that year’s postseason.

Since then, Miley has been involved with the ranks of the Astros, Reds, and Cubs. He had a 3.98 ERA in 33 games for Houston in 2019 and 3.37 in 28 games with Cincinnati in 2021, including a no-hitter against Cleveland.
