WhatsApp Web can now be used without the need for a mobile internet connection

WhatsApp Web can now be used without the need for a mobile internet connection

We knew that WhatsApp was working on making the WhatsApp Web and Desktop versions more independent. Until now, to use these versions it was necessary to keep our mobile phone connected to the internet permanently, but that is history now.

Finally, multi-device support appears to be moving into its stable phase, as we’ve seen from Engadget. When accessing WhatsApp Web, the platform will tell us that there is an update and that we can now use it without the mobile being connected at all times.

From Xataka, we were able to access using the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS (2.21.211.2), version 2.2142.12 of WhatsApp Web and version 2.2140.12 of WhatsApp Desktop. It’s definitely a matter of time before it hits the rest of the devices.

Is the mobile turned off? no problem

For practical purposes, the operation of WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop is the same. The only difference is that it will now not be necessary to keep the mobile phone connected to the Internet at all times, which may not be possible depending on the circumstances.

According to the app itself, WhatsApp can be used on four linked devices and one phone at the same time. what does that mean? We can log in on four computers, tablets or laptops, but we can’t run it on two mobile devices at the same time.

From Xataka we were able to verify that both versions, both desktop and web, work independently. We put Airplane mode on mobile and were able to continue chatting without any problem. Moreover, we have been able to make calls and video calls from WhatsApp Desktop using the mobile in offline mode.

The rollout appears to have already begun, but it is unknown how long it will take for it to be available to all users. Hopefully this is a matter of time and you do it sooner rather than later, as it always happens with jobs that come to WhatsApp. (Text and photo: taken from Radio Rebelde)
